Requirement for admission to the master’s degree program is the successful completion of a bachelor’s degree program (B.Ed.)

A degree program comes with many subject-related questions. This page contains all the information on how to structure your degree program, including details about the course structure, modules offered, and detailed module descriptions. Additionally, all necessary forms for registering your project work and your master’s thesis have been compiled here. Do you have further questions and are looking for individual advising? Do you already know our Academic Advisory Office? You can find the responsible advisor’s contact information in the service section of this page.

The masterโ€™s degree program is divided into two academic years. The first year concentrates on genetics and microbiology and aims to consolidate the students’ knowledge of subject didactics. During the second year the students will focus on their qualifying module and write their master’s thesis.

The teaching-related bachelor’s and master’s degree programs include modules in subject didactics biology as well as subject-specific modules. The module catalog provides an overview of the content and organization of the entire course. It is available for download.

After the B.Ed. Biology degree program, you will complete the course of study with a Master of Education in Biology. This qualifies you to teach the subject of biology at a Gymnasium and you will be well prepared for this! In the 3rd semester you will find a wide range of practical modules from the modern fields of biology taught at JGU.

A master of education degree also gives you the opportunity to apply your subject-specific as well as teaching and communication skills to other professional fields, such as nature and environmental education. You can also pursue further academic qualifications and a doctorate.
