Application:
The degree program has restricted admission. Selection and admission take place only through the Universitรฉ Bourgogne Europe in Dijon.
You probably have a lot of subject-related questions as you start into your degree program. This page contains all the information you need about how to organize yourself and your program of study, including details about the course sequence, module offers, and detailed module descriptions. The important forms for registering your project work and master’s thesis can also be found on this page. Do you have further questions or are you looking for individual advice? Please contact our academic advisory office. You can find your advisor’s contact information in the service area of this page.
1. Download the registration form (PDF) and save it directly to your device (mobile or computer).
2. Fill in the form using a suitable application (e.g. the free Adobe Reader App available from the App Store or Google Play Store or Acrobat Adobe Reader for desktop devices) and save it to your device.
3. Please also remember to confirm your text entry by clicking on ‘RETURN’ in each line, otherwise your entry may be truncated when you reopen or print the form.
Note: Filling out the form – without downloading – directly in your browser or in browsers on mobile devices is not supported!
Are my entries completely legible or are there any lines that have been cut off? Please check that you have entered everything correctly before sending (!) your application. Thank you!
If that’s the case, all that is missing now are the your signatures, your supervisor’s signature, and – for theses written outside the Faculty of Biology – the faculty representative.
Graduates of the international master’s degree program in microbiology (FortheMicrobes) have acquired in-depth knowledge of the field of microbiology, specifically in molecular microbiology, microbial physiology, biotechnology, and microbial ecology. The program of study has a clear research-oriented focus with regard to the diverse fields of application in the industry, in biotechnology, medicine, pharmacy, food technology, waste management, soil remediation, and materials research.
The program’s learning objective is to enable students to independently conduct scientific work in practice and theory, which optimally qualifies them for various occupational fields in science and industry on the international labor market.
Opportunities for a doctoral degree
Most graduates of the international master’s degree program in microbiology will likely follow up with a doctorate. There are a wide range of doctoral opportunities at the Faculty of Biology, the Institute of Molecular Biology, the University Medical Center, and at other scientific departments and affiliated research centers such as the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research or the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry.
Modern infrastructure for a research-focused life sciences campus: BioCenters I and II are located close to other important pillars of the natural and life sciences in Mainz, such as the Institute of Molecular Biology gGmbH (IMB), the Institute of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences, the JGU Department of Chemistry, and the Physics Institutes at Mainz University. The two Max Planck Institutes and the Helmholtz Institute Mainz complete the life sciences campus quarter. Short walking distances between all these institutions support close cooperation between the disciplines.
