Do you have a Ph.D. in the life sciences and want to pursue a career in science? The postdoctoral teaching qualification (habilitation<\/g>) is one way to provide proof of an excellent academic performance and of the pedagogical-didactic teaching qualification required for appointment as a professor. This postdoctoral teaching qualification gives you the right to teach independently in a certain field of expertise at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (venia legendi<\/em>). The postdoctoral teaching qualification can only be completed in fields of sufficient scientific breadth and importance within the Faculty of Biology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. This is determined by the Joint Committee for Questions Concerning the Postdoctoral Teaching Qualification Regulations. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    One to two years before the habilitation procedure is initiated, pre-register by sending an informal notice to the dean in which you also propose two mentors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    The habilitation procedure is initiated once you submit the habilitation application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    After you submit all of the necessary documents, the professorial dissertation is made available for inspection by the members of the faculty council and all professors for a period of 14 days (or 6 weeks during the semester break).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    The board of examiners decides on the academic and didactic suitability of the habilitation candidate and appoints the evaluators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    The Dean's Office obtains one internal and two external evaluations. Once the evaluations have been received, the professorial dissertation including the evaluations is available for inspection for a further 14 days (or 6 weeks during semester breaks). <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    The commission decides on the acceptance of the written work and determines the venia legendi<\/em> and the topics for the presentation and the inaugural lecture. The final display period then begins for one week (or 2 weeks during semester breaks). <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    The Dean's Office sets the dates for the presentation and the inaugural lecture and sends out the invitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    The faculty council evaluates the oral performance and determines the teaching qualification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    The public inaugural lecture takes place during the lecture period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    After the inaugural lecture, the candidate receives the diploma certificate; this concludes the habilitation procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
