Doctoral Programs at the Faculty of Biology

The Faculty of Biology offers suitable candidates the opportunity to participate in two different structured doctoral programs.

The programs provide accepted candidates with numerous extra offers in support of their dissertation project, among them additional supervisors, extracurricular and specialist trainings, and the opportunity of stays abroad and conference participations.

The “International Doctoral Program” (“Internationales Promotionsprogramm“, IPP) of the Faculty is operated together with the Institute of Molecular Biology, the University Medical Center, and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. The IPP focuses on research in the fields of gene regulation, epigenetics, and genomic stability.

The Graduate School Materials Science in Mainz (MAINZ) - awarded in the course of the Excellence Initiative by the German Federal and State Governments in 2007 and 2012 - offers research opportunities for biologists in the areas of biomaterials, functional polymers, and hybrid materials.

The Mainz Research School of Translational Medicine (TransMed) provides a structured program for biologists within the research fields of translational biomedicine and medicine.
